Marathon Monday

Posted by Hillary Waldron on Fri, Apr 12, 2013

Marathon Monday Baby! It's time to celebrate the honored tradition of watching the Red Sox, cheering on the runners and drinking too much.

Begun in 1897, the Boston Marathon is the world's oldest annual marathon, and ranks as one of the world's best-known road racing events. Runners and spectators come from all over the world to witness this incredible race and enjoy Patriot's Day

marathon monday route

Now, there are multiple areas to watch the race but the best locations are Fenway/Kenmore and Back Bay. There will be decent fun loving crowds in the area because of the finish line & Red Sox game. A heads up-the Ts will be packed and parking will be impossible so plan accordingly.

If you want to grab a drink, try to find a bar that has the 26.2 Sam, in honor of the race. Most of the bars that have it are located in Boston and you can check out the full list here

So enjoy the day, have some fun & be safe!

A Taste of Game of Thrones at Lower Depths

Posted by Hillary Waldron on Tue, Apr 09, 2013

Game of ThronesAre you a Game of Thrones fan? Do you enjoy a good Belgium beer? If so, let me tell you about this amazing new Blonde Ale promotion found at Kenmore's little hole in the wall bar, Lower Depths

"Producers at HBO approached the Cooperstown brewery last year about collaborating on a joint project that would capture the essence of George R.R. Martin’s spirited realm. Head Brewer Phil Leinhart said that HBO targeted Ommegang as fans of the brewery, and because their 'traditional brewing techniques and imagery blend well with the medieval feel of the show.'

The Iron Throne Blonde Ale is an easy-drinking introduction to more serious styles of Belgian beer. Brewed with both pilsner and honey malt, it has the nose and quenching drinkability of watermelon juice and the salty caramel notes found in a Werther’s Original. Ommegang also uses red wheat and finishes the brew by spicing it with grains of paradise and lemon peel, which lend the same spicy wheat character found in Belgian farmhouse ales."

Red Sox Bars

Posted by Hillary Waldron on Sat, Apr 06, 2013

Red Sox season is about to be in full swing! Can't make it to the game? Here's a few suggestions on the best Boston bars to sit and watch the game.

Game OnWatch the Red Sox
82 Landsdowne St, Boston, MA
617-351-7001

Game On is located in Fenway Park and has over 90 HGTV's! Always a good crowd and decent food. Apparently you can also get a group together and reserve space overlooking the visiting team batting cages inside Fenway Park. If Game On is too crowded, try Cask 'N Flagon

Bleacher Bar
82A Lansdowne St  Boston, MA 02215
(617) 262-2424

This is a tiny bar located on the side of Fenway. Located near center field, the Bleacher Bar looks out into Fenway through a protective barrier so you can watch the game from the bar. One of the biggest perks, you can watch the game and you don't have to grab the last round at the bottom of the 7th inning.

Don't want to trek over to Fenway but will be in the Boston area? Here are a few other suggestions for you...

Brighton Beer Garden
386 Market St  Brighton, MA 02135
(617) 562-6000

I would consider this a townie bar because its not in the center of Boston. Lots of TVs, good crowd and really good nachos. Get there early though because this place fills up fast! My suggestion for an alternative bar would be Tavern in the Square in Allston. Tavern in the Square in Allston is great for people who are in the area and a little bigger than Brighton Beer Garden.

Champions
110 Huntington Ave Boston, MA 02116
617-927-5304

This bar is great for those who are in the Copley area. Located in the Prudential Mall, this bar has two large televisions and a decent amount of seating. What I enjoy about this place is during the game they will actually have the sound on rather than keep music playing like they do at some bars in the area. Pop in just to get the score or stay for a few drinks and some food.

A Raisin in the Sun

Posted by Hillary Waldron on Wed, Apr 03, 2013

raisinA Raisin in the Sun will be performed at the Boston University Theatre until April 7th.

"Raisin in the Sun is about a crowded apartment in Chicago’s South Side, each member of a struggling African-American family yearns for a different version of a better life. An impending and sizeable insurance payment could be the key. Lorraine Hansberry’s groundbreaking 1959 classic drama is an inspiring and fiercely moving portrait of people whose dreams are constantly deferred."
