Anyways, if you want to get your Phantom kick on, it's playing, live, at the Fenway 13 Theaters tonight, starting at 7:30pm. Tickets, I believe, run around 12 to 15? Enjoy, and beware of falling chandeliers.

#524 Edgar Allan Poe: Cemetery Tour 2011 - Cambridge

Posted by Tara Peterson on Thu, Oct 06, 2011

poe2Many of Edgar Allan Poe's stories feature people who return from the dead. Perhaps it is appropriate, then, that the author himself is coming to life this October to give a reading tour at historic cemeteries and burial grounds throughout the northeast.

His first appearance will be at Mount Auburn Cemetery. Consecrated in 1831, Mount Auburn is acknowledged as the founding site of the landscape cemetery movement. Poe's appearance here will feature his personal thoughts on the works of various writers buried at Mount Auburn, including Henry Wadsworth Longfellow. Two other notable burials were also the publishers of Poe's two most famous works.

Meet in Bigelow Chapel. Admission: $15 ($10 for members of the Friends of Mount Auburn)

Poe, portrayed by literary historian Rob Velella, will appear at four cemeteries in three states to read from his works, including both prose and poetry, well-known works and obscure ones. Each reading will be unique.

Mount Auburn Cemetery | 580 Mt Auburn St | $10.00 - $15.00

#522 The Bangles with special guest Antigone Rising

Posted by Tara Peterson on Tue, Oct 04, 2011

bangles1Walk like an Egyptian over to Wilbur Theatre tonight, tickets start at 30, click the Wilbur link above to go directly to the site.
Excerpt from: The Dig:
Straight out of the electric, neon-purple heart of the ‘80s comes all female pop-rocker outfit The Bangles. Yes, you’ve heard “Walk Like An Egyptian” before. “Manic Monday” too—we hear ‘ya. But have you heard them live? While the aforementioned Bangle ladies are wearing robot suits? And projecting a giant holographic Prince into the audience? Do you like italics? Well, then it’s fair to say that The Bangles are the sonic equivalent of italics. Even when used/played as often as they are, they never get old. Case in point? Boom.

#521 A Day in Pompeii

Posted by Tara Peterson on Mon, Oct 03, 2011

Head to the Museum of Science until February 12th and check out their exhibit of Pompeii! (Something that has always fascinated me as a kid, and still does today).

Get a glimpse of daily life in Pompeii, one of Imperial Rome's most cosmopolitan cities. Hundreds of artifacts — including body casts of the volcano's victims — bring to light the vibrancy of this bustling resort town, but the darkening skies ahead and violent sounds of Vesuvius spewing ash and debris signal imminent danger.

Where: The Museum of Science
When: Now until February 12th
Price: I believe it's $18-$20 to admission into the museum.
