The “Acronyms” of Buying A Home in Boston

You see them every day – real estate ads and MLS listings filled with acronyms like “HDW” and “vu.” While these may be on the simpler side to figure out, (Hardwood Floors and View), others may cause you to scratch your head and say BBIAB (Be Back in a Bit) while you go and figure it out. To help you out, we have compiled a list of some of the most commonly used acronyms in the Boston area. So, pull up your local home search site and start deciphering!

  • SF or S/F: Square Feet
  • WBFP: Wood Burning Fireplace
  • WIC: Walk in Closet
  • W/D: Washer & Dryer
  • FDR: Formal Dining Room
  • SS: Stainless Steel
  • dk: Deck
  • EIK: Eat-in-Kitchen
  • FP: Fireplace
  • hi ceils: Higher than average Ceilings
  • lsd pkg: Leased Parking
  • upr: Upper Floor
  • 2 BR/ 1.5 BA: Two Bedrooms, One and a Half Bath
  • CAP Rate: Capitalization Rate
