The Axiom art gallery, directly attached to the station, showcases experimental art that often incorporates digital media and other forms of technology—an exhibit inspired by mathematics, for example, featuring Wikipedia entries about mathematical concepts—and unique and daring shows such as “Art Cake,” which featured works of edible art. Exhibitions change often, so there is always something new. And unlike the pricey MFA or ICA, it’s free.

It's current show is called "Refresh" an exhibition of video and animation work that explores an alternative aesthetic in digital media artwork. Refresh features a group of artists that all ask the viewer to reevaluate our collective definition of digital beauty and the value we place on visual quality in contemporary culture.

Who knew BU had such a collection?

By the time Boston University got serious about collecting the personal papers of historic literary and political luminaries, most already had been taken. So the university turned its attention to the living: stars of stage and screen, 20th century journalists and authors, screenwriters, producers, directors and comic strip artists. Today, BU’s Gottlieb Archival Research Center is the world’s largest collection of Hollywood memorabilia, including Fred Astaire’s dancing shoes, the laurel wreath Claude Rains wore in Caesar and Cleopatra, Rex Harrison’s Tony Award for My Fair Lady, Gene Kelley’s Oscar for An American in Paris, and all the original drawings of “Little Orphan Annie,” “Dennis the Menace,” and “Li’l Abner.” You can check out many of the most interesting items in a little-known exhibit room on the first floor of the university library.

Berklee's Cafe 939 is a state-of-the-art, all-ages, student-run music venue and coffeehouse. While most rooms in Boston have a specific musical niche, Cafe 939 embraces nearly any style from rock, jazz, folk, and world to bluegrass, hip-hop, electronica, avant-garde, and beyond.

Cafe 939 showcases Berklee's emerging student performers and local Boston artists, as well as national acts seeking a more intimate, personal space in which to connect with their fans. The venue is open to the general public and aims to attract musicians and music fans from all walks of life. Right down to the colors on the walls, it's a jewel to behold, located right in the Back Bay.

Come by and learn how to shuck your own oysters in a fun, relaxed setting. The lesson is free, you just pay for what you shuck and eat. (Mind you this happens EVERY Saturday, so if you miss it this Saturday, there is always another one around corner).

Go check out the work of Francesa DiMattio.
New York-based painter Francesca DiMattio's show at the Institute of Contemporary Art (ICA) features an abstract style that plays with dimension and perspective while blending pop art and architecture subjects. DiMattio uses the ICA's location as a muse, featuring five wall-sive canvases that focus on imagery of ships and the sea.
