coolidgecornerIf you haven't been to the Coolidge Corner Theater, we suggest you check it out. The theater plays independent films but they also play a plethora of classic films.

The building has been around since the early 1900's and was made into a movie house in the 1933.

"Upon acquisition by Justin Freed in 1977, the Coolidge became a showcase for "art" pictures and catered to contemporary tastes for foreign and independent films. As suburbs beyond Brookline boomed and movie audiences flocked to suburban multiplex cinemas, Freed converted the balcony section into another theater to attract more patrons. Finding it difficult to compete with the multiplexes and with video rentals, Freed eventually chose to sell the theater, and it was threatened with demolition and conversion of the property into a mall." August 13-14th playing at midnight

THE BIG LEBOWSKI: DUDE!!! A Coen Brothers classic. August 16th at 7pm
Sure, just bringing this lovably oddball slacker classic back to the BIG screen is cool enough on its own. But that's not all! We're throwing our sixth annual pre-show bowling party extravaganza celebrating the greatness of his dudeness and his laid back misadventures. Here's your chance to compete for sweet Lebowski-themed prizes in tests of wit and skill including, but not limited to:

• best costume (break out those bowling shirts, bathrobes, and skintight purple Jesus lounge suits!)

• most convincing nihilist quip

• most impassioned Walter rant

• and of course: bowling.

The Princess Bride is also playing August 23. That's inconcievable! At 7pm
