More than 100 comedy acts from around the world will perform on three stages this week for the Boston Improv Festival. This event's name is a bit of a misnomer - sketch and stand-up styles will also have their time to shine between stints by off-the-cuff comedy troupes - but that's why we like it so much. Even better, aspiring comics looking to graduate from "that's what she said" shtick to improvising a full scene and making actual jokes can choose from several workshops with stage vets.
40 Prospect St, Cambridge | September 8-12 | $50 for 10 shows; $30 for five shows; $10 single show
