Get over your fear of heights from the top of the Prudential Center

Posted by Katie Beth Clark on Sun, Aug 12, 2012

A great way to start a visit in Boston is with a bird’s-eye view from the Skywalk Observatory on the 50th floor of the Prudential Center, which offers a 360 degree panorama, including the harbor, Boston Common, and across the Charles River, Cambridge, home of America’s oldest university, Harvard and Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT).

There really isn't much to say about it, considering any description of the view I give you won't do it justice. So go check it out! It is definitely something you want to do whether you are just visiting or are here to stay!

365 things to do in Boston John F KennedyIf there is one family that is synonymous with Boston it is the Kennedys. In a landmark contemporary building on the water, the John F. Kennedy Presidential Library & Museum in Dorchester has memorabilia of the late president, his wife and family. As well as Jackie’s gowns, there are video clips ranging from civil rights to the Cuban Missile Crisis.  There is even a reconstruction of the White House Oval Office as it was during his presidency. Through their permanent exhibits, you can learn about the career of John F. Kennedy, the challenges he faced, the decisions he made, and his commitment to public life as he speaks for himself on film, video, and sound recordings from the Library's audio-visual collections.  Exhibits on the Kennedy presidency focus on such hallmarks as the Cuban Missile Crisis, the Peace Corps and the Space Program. They also have some special temporary exhibits so check out their website to see what's going on!

Free Fun Friday at the Sports Museum

Posted by Katie Beth Clark on Fri, Aug 10, 2012

Can't think of anything to do today? Well today is your lucky day! It is Free Fun Friday at the Sport Museum! Don't know what the sports museum is? Well you must not be from Boston then - so here is a little summary... beanpotThe concept of a sports museum has pretty much been thought of by every sports fan who ever lived in New England. Nowhere else in the country is the passion for sports so intense, the tradition as deep, or the shared experience as broad. In fact if you ask many of your local Boston taxi drivers they will tell you "A sports museum in Boston is like an art museum in Paris." So don't take yourself out to the ball game today folks, cause today is the day to jump into history, and not into your wallets.

Can't make it today? Well view their schedule and plan a trip to get your much needed Bostonian sports fix!

Make yourself feel better at the museums of bad art

Posted by Katie Beth Clark on Thu, Aug 09, 2012

merchantSo if you are anything like me, you are as inartistic as humanly possible. As if stick figures aren't already hard enough to draw, it doesn't make it any better when your best friend graduated college with a degree in art. So now that we're on the same page (don't worry, I won't tell you can't color in the lines either), head over to the Museum of Bad Art. They have three locations and no matter which one you go to, you are bound to leave saying only one thing, "well that made me feel better, whoever drew that should probably reconsider ever picking up a paint brush again." True story folks... check it out.

And when you leave, give yourself a pat on the back- nooooooo, not for being better than them, but for not letting them find your recent sketches.

Did someone say Secret Garden? Why yes, I did.

Posted by Katie Beth Clark on Mon, Aug 06, 2012

Believe it or not, I found a special spot in Boston, that I recommend everyone visits at least once. As you step into a squat, homely parking garage, a few seconds from the Kendall T stop and take an elevator to the top floor, I can almost reassure you that you won't be prepared for the unbelievable view. There are 30,000 square feet of beautifully maintained gardens, with benches and picnic tables tucked away so that you feel like you’re the only person up there (a lot of the time, you are).

365 things to do in Boston cambridge center garden

When I visited, the garden it was bursting with coneflowers and black-eyed Susans. I could hear mockingbirds and mourning doves in the trees. It’s partly enclosed by red brick buildings, but somehow, it doesn’t matter. You can go there and lie in the grass for hours, but don't stay for too long. There is a small but extremely devoted band of park users who would rather keep the place to themselves. :)

At 4 Cambridge Center, Kendall Square... check it out.
