#619 Gob Squad's Kitchen (You've Never Had It So Good)

Posted by Tara Peterson on Fri, Jan 13, 2012

gopsquadAndy Warhol’s haphazard short film Kitchen epitomized life at his famed Factory. Featuring Edie Sedgwick in her signature charmingly stuporous state, the directionless, no-budget film told no story and had no script (at least no script with lines Edie could recall). Tonight the Gob Squad, an avant-garde troupe of UK and German actors, recreate the film — live onstage — through pointedly bewildered acting and movie clips in Gob Squad’s Kitchen. Throughout the performance, Squad members seemingly lose interest, pulling members of the audience into the debacle as actors and conspirators. The immersive experience runs for three nights only.

#615 Park Place

Posted by Tara Peterson on Mon, Jan 09, 2012

Frederick Law Olmsted changed the landscape of America. He designed New York’s Central Park, the U.S. Capitol and White House grounds, the layout of the 1893 Chicago World’s Fair, and the Emerald Necklace of linked green space leading from Boston Common to Franklin Park. (Olmsted contributed the part beginning in the Fens.) He also helped to push for the protection of the Yosemite Valley as a park. Olmsted’s home and office, the world’s first full-scale professional practice of landscape architecture, are hidden behind a spruce pole archway entrance to the estate he called Fairsted, where he moved in 1883 and worked until his retirement in 1895. The grounds were landscaped to illustrate what he saw as the ideal suburban lifestyle, including a tiny grotto in a sunken garden; the grounds are open daily, and there are free tours of the Olmsted firm's design office.

Where: Park Place | 99 Warren St. | Brookline
When: Grounds open dawn to dusk

Tours by advance reservation on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday at 9 a.m., 11 a.m., and 2 p.m., and Sunday at 11 a.m., 1 p.m., and 3 p.m.

Enjoy an afternoon with coffee and chocolate at Aragosta's. To me it's a perfect way to end the weekend.

"After a long walk around the waterfront or a stroll through the North End, find your way to Aragosta at the Fairmont Battery Wharf for the Ultimate Chocolate Bar. From 2:00-5:00pm every Saturday and Sunday afternoon, the harbor-side restaurant serves the coffee, cappuccino and handmade (with melted Italian chocolate) hot chocolate topped with an array of sweet whipped creams or candy. Each sweet, steaming cup of cocoa costs $4 though you can spike yours for an additional $4 or add the chef's dessert tasting for an additional $6. #611 Awkward Compliment

Posted by Tara Peterson on Thu, Jan 05, 2012

shapeimage 2 copy

Would this be an awkward compliment..."those new glasses really magnify your eyebrows" or is it just an awkward observation? My problem is I can make an awkward compliment without trying, when I do try, they really don't come off as awkward...or do they?

Tonight at 8pm cut some laughs with Awkward Compliment. Boston-based comedy troupe, Awkward Compliment, presents Comedy Night, a revue of stand up, musical comedy, sketch comedy and improv. Comedic acts from all over New England perform their routines of scripted material and some that is made up on the spot.

Where: Somerville Theater | 55 Davis Sq |
When: Thursday, Jan 5 8:00p
Price:  It seems to $8, but I could be off my rocker.
