The event pays homage to Nina Simone, one of the most extraordinary artists of the twentieth century, an icon of American music. She was the consummate musical storyteller who used her remarkable talent to create a legacy of liberation, empowerment, passion, and love through a magnificent body of works.  Simone earned the moniker 'High Priestess of Soul' for she could weave a spell so seductive and hypnotic that the listener lost track of time and space as they became absorbed in the moment.

The night's music will be complemented by the culinary contributions of Executive Chef Rebecca Newell from 5:00PM-2:00PM. You are welcome for a full dinner, or to choose from our collection of cocktails and snacks at the bar while you enjoy the show. On Monday, January 23rd, Red Lantern rings in the Year of the Dragon with fun and tasty festivities. Chef Kevin Long adds a trio of specials to his regular menu: Spicy Tuna Dragon Roll (bluefin tuna with chili miso glaze, cucumber and avocado), Tik Tok Chicken (sweet and spicy chicken with water chestnuts and jasmine rice) and Chinese New Year Daikon Cake (with sausage pork and sweet hoisin). 2011 Sundance Shorts

Executive Producers of We're Leaving, Adrian Gill and Scarlett Bartlett, will be on hand at Friday's 7pm show for a brief Q&A.

The Sundance Institute Art House Project unites select independent theatres to promote the growth and appreciation of cinema culture in local communities nation-wide.  Each of the participating theatres are regarded in their community for their quality of innovative programming and their engagement with the local arts scene.

On Saturday, Jan. 21, our team will host New Hampshire in the first women’s collegiate hockey game ever to be broadcast on the ESPN family of networks. We’re excited to showcase Northeastern and the sport of women’s hockey on a national level. Our team is ranked nationally (7th). Please join us at 2 p.m. at Matthews Arena for this landmark ESPN3 telecast and help us display for the nation the pride that we all share in Northeastern.

This game is also the first chance for Northeastern students to GUARANTEE TICKETS TO THE MEN'S HOCKEY BEANPOT TOURNAMENT, to be held at TD Garden on Feb. 6 and Feb. 13.

The first 1,000 students in attendance will receive a voucher assuring them the ability to purchase a set of tickets for both men’s Beanpot games. Vouchers will be redeemable at the Matthews Arena box office during and after the women’s hockey game.

There will be free special-edition Beanpot t-shirts for the first 1,000 students as well as free food throughout the game.

Singin’ in the Rain

More than 200 manifestos, photos, films, and videos make up an ambitious survey of performance art from the past century. The project, put together by New York’s Performa and the Museum of Modern Art’s PS1, spans from Mary Wigman and Yves Klein to Carolee Schneemann, Yoko Ono, and Ryan Trecartin. And the Boston version is supplemented by performances and videos of shenanigans from Boston and Providence since the 1970s.

I don't know why I keep posting places to eat - it could be because I'm trying to watch what I eat after going crazy with the food during the holidays. I'll I know is I'm hungry...ALL the time. Anyhew, Café Sol Azteca has a great reuptation for hearty and spicy flavors. Worth checking out!

"The only indication that this restaurant exists is a sign that lures potential customers to enter what appears to be a vacant alleyway. But this hole in the wall leads straight to Mexico, with not only great food but Mexican artwork hanging from exposed brick inside, an open-air patio outside, brightly colored murals, and creative cocktails you don't usually find in the suburbs. The menu boasts classic dishes with hearty, spicy flavors. We're glad this place is so hard to find. If it wasn't, we're sure we'd have to wait in line."

I love the decor here! That and the food. It's worth checking out if you want to warm up with some good French cooking tonight!

Try to get to Petit Robert Central for their next Tasting Tuesday for beginning of the week pick-me-up. Every Tuesday, from 5:30-6:30pm, the Downtown Crossing bistro hosts a complimentary wine tasting, complete with mini tastes from chef Eric Bogardus.
