Even though he's working on a slightly smaller scale, chef Louis Dibiccari still finds plenty of room to get creative, topping his tasty, diminutive little treats with marinated mushrooms, cilantro pesto, almonds and pickles. Of course, he also appeals to burger purists with a more basic version topped with Vermont cheddar, house smoked bacon and spicy aioli. At $2.50 each you can try them all in one sitting. About Saturdays Bread:
Saturday’s/Sunday’s Bread is a program that serves free hot meals to people in need in Boston every Saturday and Sunday at the Church of St. John the Evangelist, 35 Bowdoin Street, Boston. Their mission is to provide healthy meals in a safe and inviting atmosphere, free from Society’s prejudices and judgments.  This is an interfaith, interracial, interdenominational activity of people concerned with the hungry in the Boston area. Over the course of its 25 years, Saturday’s/Sunday’s Bread has served more than 300,000 guests.
Directions
Saturdays Bread is located at The Church of St. John the Evangelist is at 35 Bowdoin Street, Boston, between Cambridge Street and Derne Street behind the State House. The entrance to the dining hall is through the door to the right of the main church entrance.  Go up the ramp and ring the bell marked "Clayton Hall," not "Church Business" or "Common Room."   Please be patient; it sometimes is hard to hear the bell in the dining hall or kitchen.
Parking:   Parking is a challenge, so it's a good idea to carpool or to go by T if possible.  The on-street parking is very scarce.  The closest public parking is the 100 Cambridge Street Parking Garage, which you enter from Somerset Street, one block east of Bowdoin.  Parking at the garage is $7.00 for the full day on weekends.
There are a few other small parking lots nearby.  The Boston Common Garage, a little further away, is $10 for the full day on weekends.
To reach the 100 Cambridge Street Parking Garage:  Coming from Storrow Drive and West, go one block past Bowdoin Street (and past the 100 Cambridge Street building). Turn right at the next light onto Somerset.  Coming from Government Center and South/East, turn left at the end of Center Plaza, the large, curved building opposite Government Center.  The garage is on the right in the first block.  If the auto entrance door is down, please knock;  the garage is open Saturdays and Sundays.
Public Transportation:   The closest T stop is the Government Center stop on the Green Line.  From the subway exit, walk west on Cambridge Street two blocks and turn left on Bowdoin.  The walk from the Park Street (Red/Green Line) station is a little longer, but a pleasant walk in good weather.  Follow Park Street toward the State House, turn right on Beacon, then quickly left onto Bowdoin.

The Record: Contemporary Art and Vinyl, organized by the Nasher Museum of Art at Duke University, is the first museum exhibition to explore the culture of vinyl records within the history of contemporary art. Bringing together artists from around the world who have worked with records as their subject or medium, this groundbreaking exhibition examines the record's transformative power from the 1960s to the present.

Through sculpture, installation, drawing, painting, photography, sound work, video and performance, The Record combines contemporary art with outsider art, audio with visual, and fine art with popular culture.

The exhibition features 99 works by 41 artists, including rising stars in the contemporary art world (William Cordova, Robin Rhode, Dario Robleto), outsider artists (Mingering Mike), well-established artists (Jasper Johns, Ed Ruscha, Carrie Mae Weems) and artists whose work will be shown in a U.S. museum for the first time (Kevin Ei-ichi deForest, Jeroen Diepenmaat, Taiyo Kimura, Lyota Yagi).

#371 Chihuly: Through the Looking Glass

Posted by Tara Peterson on Wed, May 04, 2011

chihulyHead to the MFA to see Chihuly's exhibit.

Over the course of his career, Dale Chihuly has revolutionized the art of blown glass, moving it into the realm of large-scale sculpture and establishing the use of glass—inherently a fragile but also magical material—as a vehicle for installation and environmental art. This exhibition of new and archival works represents the breadth and scope of the artist’s creative vision over the last four decades.

The exhibition will include installations such as Lime Green Icicle Tower, to be installed in the Shapiro Courtyard; a Persian Wall; a Chandelier room with six examples, including the Chiostro di Sant’Apollonia Chandelier; and a room containing a magnificent Mille Fiori installation that is nearly sixty feet long.

By 1965, Dale Chihuly was already captivated by the process of glassblowing. Influenced by an environment that fostered the blurring of boundaries separating the various arts, as early as 1967 Chihuly was using neon, argon, and blown glass forms to create room-sized installations of his glass. Although his work ranges from the single vessel to indoor and outdoor site-specific installations, he is best known for his multipart blown compositions. Based in Seattle, Washington, Chihuly works with a team of glassblowers, a process that allows him to work on a grand scale and to explore and experiment with color, design, and assemblage. "Chihuly: Through the Looking Glass" provides an opportunity to see and explore the full range of his artistic achievements by immersing visitors in the beautiful and enchanting environments created through his extraordinary vision.
