#216 The Velvetten Rabbit

Rabbit

"It doesn't happen all at once," said the Skin Horse. "You become. It takes a long time. That's why it doesn't happen often to people who break easily, or have sharp edges, or who have to be carefully kept. Generally, by the time you are Real, most of your hair has been loved off, and your eyes drop out and you get loose in the joints and very shabby. But these things don't matter at all, because once you are real you can't be ugly, except to the people who don't understand." the velveteen rabbit

The Velveteen Rabbit is playing at the YMCA Boston Central Branch. From 11/27 to 12/19, go and enjoy a classic. To get more information and tickets please visit this website.

#210 Rear Window

Posted by Tara Peterson on Mon, Nov 22, 2010

rearwindowI admit, I have a thing for Hitchcock films. I give my dad that credit. If you don't have any plans on Sunday, and just want to chill and take it easy, go to Coolidge Corner Theater at 7pm, as they are playing Rear Window. Tickets are $9.75

A little synopis of the film: Photojournalist L.B. Jefferies (James Stewart) is housebound after breaking his leg, but being stuck in his Greenwich Village apartment is the least of his concerns after he believes that he witnesses a murder across his backyard. None of his visitors, who include his wealthy flame Lisa (Grace Kelly), nurse Stella (Thelma Ritter) and friend Tom (Wendell Corey) believe him. How can Jefferies convince his nearest and dearest that there is a murderer on the prowl before he becomes the next target?

Avedon Veruschka.showcase 1So..if you haven't noticed, the MFA updated their website, and it looks AMAZING!! I LOVE it!!
With that said, if you are into fashion, we suggest going to the MFA exhibit Avedon Fashion.

Here's a blurb on the exhibit:

Richard Avedon was one of the greatest image-makers of the twentieth century. He revolutionized fashion photography with his imaginative, spirited portrayals of the "good life” showing beautiful women wearing extraordinary clothes in irresistible settings, as well as memorable portrayals that are both elegant and reserved. The upbeat spirit and innovative design of his compositions caught the eye of editors and art directors at Harper’s Bazaar and Vogue—the primary magazines for which he worked—while his vision of the modern American woman, one of wit, individuality, and fast-lane glamour, captivated the public. His enormous success defined the role of the high-profile fashion photographer that we know today, and many of his images have become icons of photographic history.

Avedon’s career as a fashion photographer is displayed decade by decade in this exceptional traveling exhibition from the International Center of Photography in New York, the first comprehensive survey of Avedon’s fashion photography since 1978.
