I have a friend on the west coast who rants and raves about buying her meals off of trucks. And all I can say is "Really.....REALLY?" But than I experienced my first food truck drive by...and I was in utter amazement at how wonderful it was. Sure it may not be that healthy for you, live a little bit!!

With that said, SoWa is hosting the 1st Annual Food Truck Festival on Sunday, August 8, 2010 10:00 am - 4:00 pm at 540 Harrison Ave. So if you like food, and you're partial to trucks (you don't really have to be partial to trucks, but you do have to love food). Head on over this Sunday!

Who said print was dead? In my opinion I'd rather curl up with a book than some cold electronic device. haha But that's just me. (But I'm not here to throw out my opinions).

For all who will be staying in the city this Saturday, head to 700 Boylston Street, as the famous Boston Public Library will be hosting a citywide book sale from 10am to 4pm on Saturday, Aug. 7th.

Featuring CDs, vinyl records (what are those...? Kidding), cassettes, magazines and books...let's not forget the glorious, glorious books filled with words and letters and thoughts, and far off places! Hard covers are $2 and paperbacks are $1.

Proceeds will benefit the community programs of the City Wide Friends of the Boston Public Library.

Do you remember Vinny T's? After months and months of walking by the bordered up windows at 867 Boylston, I gave up hoping and wishing that something amazing was going to come along.

Well something awesome did come along! The Back Bay Social Club! It's finally open! (Check out their Facebook page as well, become a fan!)

If you're hanging at the Pru or walking Newbury and want to grab some good food, head over to 867 Boylston and grab a drink and some food that people can't stop complimenting!

What is it about listening to jazz in the summer? I feel like it completes the whole experience, and summer isn't summer without the experience.

If you are around this evening and don't have much to do, because it is Wednesday after all, head to the Rosenfeld Concert in the Courtyard at 7:30pm-9pm at the Museum of Fine Arts (230 The Fenway).

Get the full brass experience with Frank London's Klezmer Brass All-Stars. With a little jazz and a pinch of Gypsy brass band music and klezmer that creates their unique sound.

The courtyard opens for dining at 6pm, and seats are limited. (Sorry I would have posted this earlier, but I was on vacation, playing catch up now....) Low lawn chars and blankets are recommended.

Tickets are $24 to $30 (Depending if you are a member of MFA, Boston).

Trivia nights been a bit....dull lately? Need more of a challange? We suggest hitting up Highland Kitchen in Somerville for a night of noisy, lively weekly....wait for it.... spelling bee.

Tiernan wields the words and definitions, while Pierce adds a little emphatic onomatopoeia (can you spell that?) to the participants’ performances with an arsenal of keyboard, kazoo, whistle, and gong thingys, upping the giggle factor. For spelling such crazy words as "duiker" (a small to medium-sized African antelope species) or lederhosen (the German leather breeches) or minimifidianism (we can't even find that one in our dictionary, but it purportedly means a minuscule degree of faith, such as what we have about our own public spelling skills), you can win a few new friends and maybe a Highland Kitchen gift certificate.

 

It usually gets crowded, so sign up early, grab some Buffalo-fried Brussels sprouts and one of the craveworthy house cocktails, and engage your brain with the good-time spirit of a wacky, adult spelling bee.

Indoor bolts produced by the world's largest air-insulated Van de Graaff generator spark exciting explorations of lightning, electric charge, and storm safety.

Fan of Mad Men? Season four started if you aren't aware....

Get ready for the return of everybody's' favorite womanizing ad man at Tavolo when they host their Mad Men Sundays. Beginning on July 25th and running all subsequent Sundays, the Dorchester eatery will turn the focus to cocktails and 1960s inspired bar snacks to put you in an appropriately Mad mood. The show starts at 10pm, but you can stop by a little early and order something delicious off of chef Maxwell Thompson's dinner menu, just be sure to pair it with a cocktail - it's what Don Draper would do. Go and enjoy your Sunday evening at Tavolo.

The Paul Revere House and Museum, 19 North Square, will present a copper plating demonstration from 1pm-4pm Saturday July 31. Craftsman Gary Gregory will demonstrate the techniques Paul Revere used to engrave and print broadsheets and political cartoons. Admission is free with museum admission. North End residents are admitted free at all times.

Since 1998 MassArt has invited renowned visiting artists to use its 20x24 Polaroid camera, one of only five such cameras still in operation. This camera - favored by artists such as Mary Ellen Mark, Elsa Dorfman, Chuck Close, and William Wegman - allows for invention and interactivity through its unique process. The camera is a large (about two feet wide, three feet deep, and five feet high) but simple machine that operates with a lens and a Polaroid film processor.

The physical nature of the processing (due largely to the size of the camera) is often likened to print making. After an exposure is made a motor pushes the sandwiched negative and positives of the image through rollers to spread the developer, after approximately 75 seconds the positive is carefully pulled apart to reveal the image. Polaroid 20x24 prints have unique and characteristic chemical smears at the top and bottom of each print, a remnant of the developing process. Likened to an audiophile's love of vinyl records, this vintage camera is cherished for its crisp detail, beautiful print quality, and instant results.
