Bastille Day Party 2013

The French Cultural Center's Bastille Day Party returns to Marlborough Street on Friday, July 12.  The block party will be from 6pm-11pm. There will be music and wonderful French food and drinks to purchase, including alcoholic beverages.bastile day

The acts include "Atlas Soul, whose music blends spicy hot Afro-Mediterranean grooves and melodies with a generous dose of jazz, funk and rock and Madame Moustache, a country-rock band hailing from Québec whose entertaining music is marked by humor and folly, seducing the most eclectic audiences.

Gloucester Garden Tour

The Gloucester Garden Tour will be on Saturday July 13 between 10 AM and 4 PM. This is aGloucester Garden Tour self guided tour that will showcase the beauty of various flowers and plants.  The profits will benefit the plantings in the Fishermen’s Wives Memorial and the new HarborWalk Butterfly Gardens. Tickets are $20 before July 4th and $25 after and can be picked up at the beginning of the tour. 

"Start at exit 12 off Route 128 North. Gardens one through five, with lovely views of the confluence of the Annisquam and Little River, are accessible from this point and parking is available at Grand Banks as well as along Biskie Point Road. Garden number six, in West Gloucester, is the fabulous garden of Hillarie Holdsworth which was featured in 2012 in the Boston Globe Magazine. Parking for the Holdsworth garden is available along Walker Street and in a field next to the property. Gardens seven through ten are located along the Stacy Boulevard with parking at Stage Fort Park. The Elizabeth Gordon Smith Park, Picture Garden and Perennial Gardens are easily accessed on foot or by trolley with a flag stop at the Fishermen’s Wives Memorial. The trolley also stops at the Harborwalk Butterfly Gardens, garden eleven, along the harbor. Kim Smith, designer of the Butterfly Gardens will be speaking and conducting tours of the Butterfly Gardens at 1:00PM and 2:00 PM starting at St. Peter’s Park. Lunch is available at local restaurants."

 

 

African Festival of Boston

African FestivalThe African Festival of Boston will be on Saturday, July 6th at the Rose Fitzgerald Kennedy Greenway Park. The festival will run from 11am-7pm and is open to the public. 

The African Festival of Boston is meant to educate others, network and enjoy the African culture with diverse music, food, drum call parade, African-style face painting, and various local and internationally known African artists. There will also be information on health & wellness and a fashion show!  

"The African Festival of Boston presents a unique opportunity for emerging and established artists to showcase their work on a national platform. Therefore creating opportunities for collaboration with international artists, build new audiences, and share the culture and heritage of all people of African descent with the global community.

Boston Pops July Fourth Fireworks Spectacular

Happy 4th of July! Today is the day! Grill it up, hit the beach and come to Boston to get a great view of the Boston Fireworks Spectacular this year! 

The concert is scheduled to begin at 7:30 p.m., followed by the fireworks, which are scheduled to begin at 9:30 p.m. This year, performances will include Susan Tedeschi, Howie Day, Ayla Brown, Ellis Hall, The Tanglewood Festival Chorus and Keith Lockhart and The Boston Pops. The show will conclude with "Overture of 1812", which will be performed by the Boston Pops as the fireworks go off! The concert and fireworks will end at approximately 10:00pm. 

The Esplanade, like most years, will be crowded so make sure you get there early! The Mass Ave Bridge will be closed this year as well as half of the Longfellow Bridge. On top of the items that are normally not permitted, no backpacks or coolers will be allowed this year as well. 

So plan accordingly, stay safe and most importantly, enjoy your Independence Day!

Boston Harborfest is Here!

Boston Harborfest

Boston Harborfest is a wonderful patriotic event that spans from July 2-7 and has various events, entertainment and great food! This festival is fun and family friendly! These events will start and/or take place in Boston City Hall Plaza

"Over the years, Harborfest has grown from a local event to a national celebration. In 1982 there were 35 activities over the course of three days. Now in its 32nd year, Harborfest is considered to be the largest patriotic celebration in the nation with visitors enjoying more than 200 activities during the Festival."

Explore the Freedom Trail, take a sailing trip. and enjoy a scavenger hunt! There are also multiple companies, including Boston Duck Tours & Old Town Trolley, that are having tours throughout the day that will explore all of Boston! 

July 3rd will be Children's Day for Harborfest. There will be multiple arts and crafts, music and outdoor activities available. Kids will get a chance to have fun and learn about history at the same time! There will even be balloon art and face painting! 

Saturday, July 6 is Party on the Plaza where there will be multiple bands playing throughout the day. Such artists include Town Hall Blues Band, Down City Band and Primal Funk!

On Sunday, Harborfest will be having their Chowderfest! From 11am-6pm try out New England's Greatest Chowder! Adult tickets are only $13.00 and children's tickets are $9.00. Taste all the chowders and put in your ballot for your favorite!

The event will be held at Ned Devline's in Boston's Faneuil Hall on Wednesday, July 3rd from 9pm-close.The event will have the classics and even some specialty beers for the occasion! Official USS Constitution Turnaround Lunch Cruise from Long Wharf

Whats a better way to celebrate our independence and history by enjoying a trip on the world's oldest commissioned warship on 4th of July? "USS Constitution has been making this voyage annually on July 4th since the 1950s as a reminder of those who served, sacrificed and fought for our independence." 

Have some lunch and take in the history of this amazing vessel. The voyage will take you out to Castle Island and back to Charlestown. Before you head home, make sure you check out the USS Constitution Museum located right by the dock!

describe the imageThe Charles River Conservancy and the MA Department of Conservation and Recreation are having their Sunday Parkland Games on the Charles River near the Weeks Footbridge. The Sunday Parkland Games will be from 3:30pm to 6pm from June 16 through September 29. These games are a great way to bring friends and and families together for some fun and fitness!

"CRC partners with Knucklebones, a local athletic and events company, to implement the program. They provide equipment and instruction for a variety of games—from bocce to beanbag toss, from basketball to badminton. There are hula-hoops and jump ropes, and from 5pm to 6pm, Cambridge-based Karma Yoga Studio conducts a one-hour yoga class. The game equipment is sized for children as young as 3 up to adults."
