Shakespeare on the Common is Back!

Posted by Hillary Waldron on Mon, Jun 24, 2013

shakespeareShakespeare on the Common is back from July 6th-28th! This year the performance will be "The Two Gentlemen of Verona" directed by Steve Maler

"'Two Gents' tells the tale of two friends who leave their hometown of Verona to find their happy fortunes in Milan. Instead, they find temptation, trickery, and trouble as they vie for favor with the high-society Duke... and his debutante daughter. All are drawn into a web of disguise and secrecy where the last thing anyone wants is for the truth to surface -- least of all the dog."

Shakespeare on the Common has been an 18 year tradition that has drawn decent size crowds through the years. This year, the Commonwealth Shakespeare Company is dedicating the event to Mayor Menino and his wife to thank them for their support in the theatre community.

brunomarsBruno Mars will be coming to TD Garden on Wednesday, June 26th! Enjoy his latest hits such as "When I Was Your Man" and "Locked Out of Heaven".  The 'Moonshine Jungle Tour' begins on June 22, 2013 and will continue through March 16, 2014. The opening act for the June 26 concert will be Fitz & The Tantrums who produced "MoneyGrabber" and "Out of My League".

"When the pop and soul sprite played the Agganis Arena in 2011, his high levels of energy, musical prowess, dance moves, and musical heft came as something of a surprise given the lightweight sensibility of his songs. Following the release of the dynamite, "Unorthodox Jukebox" we expect Mars to be even more out of this world in 2013. Simpatico spirits Fitz and the Tantrums handles the warm up duties. "

Check out the Boston Harbor Islands!

Posted by Hillary Waldron on Tue, Jun 18, 2013

specisland"Just 15 minutes from downtown Boston, Spectacle Island is ideal for hiking, swimming, boating, and learning. Stop in at a “green” visitor center with exhibits about the history and evolution of the island. Go swimming on a sandy beach (one of the few on the islands) supervised by trained lifeguards in the summer. Take in panoramic views of the harbor and city from the tallest hill on the Boston Harbor Islands. The marina makes it a popular destination for boaters.

Georges Island is dominated by historic Fort Warren, a Civil War-era fort known for its graceful granite archways and reputed ghost, the Lady in Black. The fort and its grassy parade ground are a popular place for a scenic low-stress walk. Take a ranger-guided tour or visit the new museum with exhibits about the history of the fort. Enjoy a picnic under the shade of a tree. Get exceptional views of the surrounding islands and Boston Light from the ramparts and towers. Georges Island is a frequent stop for the island ferries and provides a jumping-off point for other islands.

Small and picturesque, Bumpkin Island was home to American Indians, a fish-drying operation, tenant farmers, a naval training camp, polio patients, and more. Now it’s a quiet camping destination, with ten smaller campsites (max. capacity 4 each) and one group campsite (max. capacity 25). Its slate and shell beaches and open areas make Bumpkin a relaxing place to wander. Walk trails lined with wildflowers. Explore the remains of a stone farmhouse and children’s hospital. Watch the sun rise from your campsite."

These islands, and the other Boston Harbor Islands, have events throughout the summer. Check out the Boston Harbor Islands website for more island and transportation information and plan your visit today!
