Free Tours for Veterans and Active Miliary Members at Fenway Park

Fenway ParkIn honor of Veteran's Day, the Boston Red Sox will be offering free Fenway Park tours to all veterans and active members of the military today.

Tour hours will be from 10am-5pm with start at the top of every hour. The tours will offer insight on one of American's most beloved ballpark and the Red Sox players. Now is a particularly exciting time to visit the ballpark due to the recent 2013 World Series win over the St. Louis Cardinals. 

"Veterans and active members will be able to pick up their tickets at the Gate D ticket booth, which is on the corner of Yawkey Way and Van Ness Street, and they will be asked to show their military identification to redeem their free tour ticket."

Veteran's Day is a chance to honor and give thanks to all the men and women who have served in our nation's military. Here are a list of some of the events going on in the Boston area. 

Annual Veterans Day Appreciation Dinner
The Annual Veterans Day Appreciation Dinner will be in Natick on November 11th at 6:00pm at the Natick Community Senior Center. The event is sponsored by the Town of Natick, Natick Soldier Systems Center, Natick Veterans Council, and police and fire unions. All veterans, active duty service members, and their families are invited. RSVP to veterans@natickma.org.

Veteran’s Day Offer
This Veterans Day, the Prudential Center’s California Pizza Kitchen and Boston Duck Tours are joining forces to offer those who currently serve or have served in the United States’ military service a complimentary meal and tour. As a small way of saying thanks for the tremendous commitment, sacrifice, and heroism that the service men and women have shown, members of the United States military can enjoy any pizza from California Pizza Kitchen’s menu, along with a non-alcoholic beverage (dine-in only) on Sunday, November 11th (Veterans Day) or Monday, November 12th when they show military ID or other proof of service or if they visit the restaurant in uniform.

Boston Veteran's Day Parades
The Boston Veteran's Day Parade kick off at 1pm on Monday, November 11, 2013 at the corner of Boylston and Tremont Streets, and wind their ways along Boston Common and on to City Hall Plaza and Faneuil Hall, where you can hear a variety of speeches and music and pay tribute to servicemen and women.  

There will also be a Veterans for Peace Parade following the first parade.

2nd Annual Taste of the NFL

Ugly Sweater Run Boston

It's that time of year again. Although its only the beginning of November, CVS (notoriously) already has their Christmas display up and all holiday events are starting to come together. 

The Ugly Sweater Run, which will be in Somerville on Sunday, November 30th, is one of the large upcoming holiday events. This event is fun and festival and also works with Toys for Tots to bring joy to children in need during the holidays.

"The run is approximately 3.1 miles long on city streets. The start line will have snow machines, reindeer games and awesome holiday music. Once you’re on the course, you’ll find holiday themed aide stations every mile – EG – Sled hills (weather permitting), Hot Chocolate aide stations, Christmas Trees lining the streets and more snow.

After the run, participants are welcome to join in the post run festivities which include awards for best real mustache and worst sweater. There will be Sam Adams and hot chocolate after the event. Make sure you bring your ID if you are 21+. 

All participants should leave the donations for Toys for Tots under the large Christmas tree at the event.

Tickets for this event are $39 (registration fee may be applied). Each Ugly Sweater runner receives a custom vintage knit hat, unlimited hot chocolate, two free Winter Lagers (if you’re of age of course!) and a mustache.

John Singer Sargent Watercolors at MFA

John Singer Sargent Watercolors are now at the Museum of Fine Arts until mid January 2014.museum of fine arts

Boston Turkish Festival

turkish festivalThe 18th Annual Boston Turkish Festival is being celebrated now until December 15, 2013.

"Since its inception in 1996, this unique festival lasts more than a month and it is one of the largest of its kind in the U.S. The Festival theme, 'Colors of Anatolia', reflects the diversity and richness of Turkish culture, ranging from art exhibits, workshops, gastronomic presentations and concerts to Turkish cinema."

Right now, visitors can enjoy the art exhibition "Turuoise Dream: A Journey To The Aegean" at the Howard Thurman Center at Boston University. The artist, Gizem Saka, took inspiration from her hometown of Istanbul and painted bold and colorful works of art. These paintings will be on display at Boston University until December 15th. The gallery is open to the public during the Howard Thurman Center operating hours. 

There are also upcoming events including the Isail Hakki Fencioglu & Group Shtreiml: Jewish Roots and Turkish Blues concert at the Goethe-institut Boston and a documentary and short film competition at the Museum of Fine Arts

I Could Have Danced All Night

Upstage Lung Cancer presents ' I Could Have Danced All Night' , the Songs of Alan Jay Lernerupstage lung cancer on Tuesday, November 5, 7:30 pm at The Lyric Stage. 

This one-night only benefit concert honors brilliant Broadway lyricist and playwright, Alan Jay Lerner, best known for his legendary partnership with composer Frederick (Fritz) Loewe. Their Tony and Academy Award-winning compositions include My Fair Lady, Camelot, Gigi, Brigadoon, and Paint Your Wagon.  The Songwriter’s Hall of Fame notes, 'Lerner’s lyrics were marked by warmth and civilized urbanity, coupled with the highest order of craftsmanship.'

This delightful show features some of Boston’s finest musicians and celebrities: Leigh Barrett, Brian De Lorenzo, Hildy Grossman, Paula Markowicz and Scott Wahle. Tim Evans is music director, partnered with stage director Lisa Rafferty, writer of the hilarious MOMologues. Emmy Award-winning A&E critic Joyce Kulhawik stars as celebrity emcee.

Boston Red Sox Parade!

Boston Red SoxThe Boston Red Sox won the World Series last night with a victory over the St. Louis Cardinals. And for those of you who aren't quite done celebrating, you can join thousands of others who will be in Boston on Sunday, November 1st for the Boston Red Sox Parade!

In tradition, the Red Sox and affiliates will be on the Boston Duck Tour boats strolling around the city's most popular streets. Although details for the route are still being finalized, the parade is expected to start at 10am in Fenway and head towards the Boston Marathon finish line on Boylston. There are also rumors that the parade might even extend into the Charles River

"The duck boats were last used in a championship parade when the Boston Bruins hoisted the Stanley Cup in 2012. The last time the Red Sox made their rounds in the boats was back in 2007."

Parking will be limited and visitors are highly recommended to use public transportation.

South Boston Open Studios

Twice a year artists, artisans and visitors celebrate the South Boston Open Studios. Onsouth boston Saturday, November 2nd and Sunday, November 3rd, visitors can walk around The Distillery and admire the work of artists in the area. 

"Visitors can mingle with creative types, tour the unique environments in which art is produced, and make purchases directly from the artists. In addition to art studios, visitors can get a peek into live/work lofts, creative small businesses, and corridors which often serve as gallery space."

The Distillery has two galleries, dozens of artists' studios and live/work loft areas. There are different types of studios, including photography, oil paintings and jewelery.

Get out your trucker hats and camouflage for the White Trash Party with Dalton and the Sheriffs on Friday, Nov. 1, and on Saturday, Nov. 2, it's time to don your best disco duds with the Boston Common Band. Boston.com's in-house radio station will be hosting its second consecutive Halloween bash at Ned Devine's in Faneuil Hall this year. Fear at The Revere, Oct. 31
The Revere will host what could be an epic smash this year at Space 57 inside the hotel. Why epic? Because they're offering $2,500 for costume prizes. There will be 6,700 square feet of ghouls and goblins, according to the event listing, so dress to impress. Tickets are available here.

Lolita Cocina's 'Dance With the Dead' Halloween Party
This Back Bay bar is hosting a Mexican-themed decadent Day of the Dead party on Halloween with sounds by Kupah James. Complimentary appetizers will be passed until 10 p.m., Josh Jamison will be crafting specialty cocktails, and you can savor the evening in the available photo booth. Don't slouch with your costumes here, folks: $500 in cash will be available for the best costume.
