#389 Tour the Chocolate Factory

Posted by Tara Peterson on Sun, May 22, 2011

taza4...mind you without the oompa loompa's.

A chocolate factory in town where you can go behind the scenes and watch sweets being created, bean to bar, no golden ticket required. Better yet, the tour is of Taza, the only producer in America of 100 percent stone-ground organic chocolate, roasted and wrapped by hand. And, yes, the one-hour tour includes samples. Make sure to stop by the factory shop afterward for some sweet reminders of your visit. Or skip the tour and just make for the store.

Taza buys its criollo and trinitario chocolate directly from small producers in the Dominican Republic, Bolivia, Mexico, and Belize, and its sugar from a company in Brazil that uses the waste cane fiber to generate electricity for its factory and the surrounding town.

Where: Taza Chocolate | 561 Windsor St. near Inman Square |Somerville, MA, 02143
617.284.2232

When: Factory store open Wednesday through Sunday, 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Tours Thursday and Friday, 4 p.m. and Saturday and Sunday at noon, 2 p.m., and 4 p.m.

#386 Susurrus

Posted by Tara Peterson on Thu, May 19, 2011

event main susurrusSo Susurrus does not officially start until tomorrow, but hey, I thought I would give you heads up!

Susurrus is a play without actors and without a stage. It is part radio play, part recital, part lesson in bird dissection, and part stroll in the park. Audiences follow a map around Boston's Public Garden as they listen to the piece on headphones; the different elements form a “perfect melding of location and text to create a theater experience in which there are no actors and only one member in the audience: you.” (The Guardian)

Get more information here. They are even providing umbrella's because it rains in Boston. I know..news flash.

#385 Travel the Freedom Trail

Posted by Tara Peterson on Wed, May 18, 2011

So it's kind of funny, that being we are a Things to do in Boston site, and we have never posted the Freedom Trail....WHHHAAAT?! I know! Shame on us!

So here it is:

Visitors to Boston, school children, teachers, historians, history buffs, citizens, and friends, welcome to the Freedom Trail. There is no other place in the United States where you can take in the rich history of America’s Revolution — the events that led up to the historic break from Britain and the brave people who shaped our national government.

The Freedom Trail is a 2.5 mile red-brick walking trail that leads you to 16 nationally significant historic sites, every one an authentic American treasure. Preserved and dedicated by the citizens of Boston in 1958, when the wrecking ball threatened, the Freedom Trail today is a unique collection of museums, churches, meeting houses, burying grounds, parks, a ship, and historic markers that tell the story of the American Revolution and beyond.

Take a virtual trip to the Freedom Trail here on this site, then plan your visit to see the real thing. It’s fun, it’s entertaining, it’s really interesting — it’s American Revolutionary history but not the same old story....

Visit their site for more information on guided tours...or just follow the red brick in the middle of the sidewalk...be caustious when crossing the street folks!
