Boston Parks Commissioner Antonia M. Pollak and The Skating Club of Boston President Joseph Blount will host this year’s official opening of the Boston Common Frog Pond on Thursday, November 18, at 5:30 p.m.

The evening’s Master of Ceremonies will be Dan Weinstein, 1998 and 2002 Olympic Speed Skater and National Short Track Speed Skating Champion who has served as an NBC Olympic Commentator for speed skating events. (To get more information click here).

Playing For Change comes to Symphony Hall! The group features street performers around the world as seen on "Stand By Me" on YouTube and the PBS Special seen on WGBH TV. In the band are Senegalese guitarist Ilon Ba, percussionist Mohammed Alidu (of Northern Ghana), vocalist Clarence Bekker (of Netherlands/Suriname), vocalist/harmonica player Grandpa Elliott (of New Orleans), vocalist/percussionist Mermans Kenkosenki (of DRC Congo), guitarist Jason Tamba (of Kinshasa, DRC Congo),vocalist Titi Tsira (Gugulethu, South Africa), Juan Carlos Portillo (of Zimbabwe), Reggie McBride (Detroit) & Peter Bunetta (Los Angeles).

If you've been living under a rock in Boston, than this whole Blue Man Group is probably news to you. If not, we figured we would give them a shout out today. (I'm always reminded of Tobias in arrested Development when he was auditioning for the Blue Man Group...sigh...how I miss that show).

Get your light sabers ready, Boston, because Charles Ross is bringing his wildly entertaining One-Man Star Wars Trilogy to the Coolidge for one night only. In this hilarious, kinetic solo piece, writer/performer Ross plays all the characters, recreates the effects, sings from John Williams' score, flies the ships, and fights both sides of the battles from the original Star Wars trilogy. No costumes, no props, no sets - just Ross using his yoga-limber body, remarkable knack for voices, and manic levels of energy to put his own distinct stamp on the Star Wars universe. Did he spend too much of his childhood in a galaxy far, far away? Well, let's just say that by age 10, he had seen the first Star Wars film more than 400 times and committed virtually every line to memory. Ross has since parlayed this childhood obsession into a one-of-kind theatrical piece that he has performed around the globe. Where does he get his strength? It flows from the Force, of course.

Members of the 501st Legion New England Garrison will be making a special appearance in their amazing Star Wars costumes!

Join Harpoon this Sunday:
On Sunday, November 14th, Harpoon Brewery will host the 4th annual Harpoon Helps Grateful Harvest Beer-B-Q, a fundraiser for the Greater Boston Food Bank. Harpoon's charitable giving program, Harpoon Helps, and the New England Barbeque Society have joined forces to put together a Thanksgiving meal, barbeque-style, to raise money for the Greater Boston Food Bank's annual Food Fund, which supplies Thanksgiving meals for families in and around Boston.

The competitive barbeque masters will hitch up their huge smokers, park them in front of the brewery, and smoke more than 500 lbs of turkey along with all the trimmings. In addition to all-you-can-eat great food and pints of fresh beer, The Goodtime String Band will entertain guests with toe-tapping bluegrass and fiddle tunes.

3 PM to 4 PM: passed appetizers and Harpoon beer reception
4 PM to 6 PM: Buffet-style, sit-down dinner

$55 gets you turkey and all the trimmings, 3 Harpoon pints, an a commemorative Beer-B-Q beer mug. 100% of the ticket sales go to the Greater Boston Food Bank!

As a kid I had this obsession with puppets, I'd like to thank the Sound of Music for that. I still have a fascination for them...and I would like to thank Mister Rogers for that one. Anyways, the Paramount Theatre (559 Washington Street), will be performing Petrushka. HEY!

A two-night "pop-up" restaurant is on its way to the South End of Boston, and two familiar names within the Boston restaurant scene are behind it.

“It’s a restaurant-style experience in non-restaurant style venues,” said Aaron Cohen, who along with chef Will Gilson of Cambridge’s Garden at the Cellar is organizing a two-evening pop-up restaurant inside the South End antique dealer, Mohr + McPherson.

Tickets for the dinners (Nov. 12 and Nov. 13 at 7:30 p.m.) are $60, with a processing fee of $4.29. The evening includes a five-course dinner and guests will be seated at the store’s luxurious dining tables.

Course one: black truffle and pistachio sausage with parsnip puree and turnips

Course two: marinated and grilled squir salad with bitter greens and sherry vinaigrette

Course three: roasted squash soup with brown butter, marjoram and smoked pepper

Main course: local cod wrapped in speck with thyme-infused potatoes and romeso sauce

Dessert: honey and lavender panna cotta with almond crumble and luxardo foam
