#575 Macy's Christmas Windows

Posted by Tara Peterson on Mon, Nov 28, 2011

macywindow

So, after reading this little blurb, "In the early 1870s, Macy's was the first department store to feature Christmas windows," we finally have someone to possibly blame on holiday festivities starting earlier each year. Regardless or not, I'm still a sucker for it. It makes me all warm and fuzzy inside. If you're with me, head over to Macy's tonight at 5pm (near downtown crossing at 450 Washington St.) to check out their very COOL window displays!

This year's Macy's Christmas Windows theme is "Make-A-Wish" with ornaments inspired by celebrity designers. (You can read more about it here. Or visit Macy's website).

So you should be good and digested after Thursday's festivities...go and check out the awesome farmers market in the South End at the SoWa Winter Farmer's Market.

The SoWa Winter Farmers’ Market grew from the demand for a direct producer-to-consumer experience beyond the traditional SoWa summer market season, as well as an abundance of offerings from local farmers and producers reaching well into the winter, and replenishing in the spring. From mid November through end of April, you’ll find grassfed meats, cheese, root vegetables, greenhouse fare, farm fresh eggs, seeds & starter plants, artisan breads & baked goods, jams & preserves, grains & oils, and much more, all under one roof at 485 Harrison Ave in the South End of Boston. Open Every Sunday, November 20th through April 29th, 10am-2pm (excluding December 25, 2011 and January 1, 2012).

The event features over 35 mini chain reactions linked together with the help of renowned artist and chain reaction creator, Arthur Ganson. To celebrate the 14th annual F.A.T., participants are asked to design contraptions that celebrate the 14-line sonnet, or write a sonnet to accompany their machine. The mega chain reaction will be set off as the events wacky culmination with a surprise ending by Ganson."
