Since 1963, Boston Ballet has been one of the leading dance companies in the world on stage, in the studio and in the community. The Company maintains an internationally acclaimed repertoire and the largest ballet school in North America, Boston Ballet School. Boston Ballet maintains a repertoire of classical, neo-classical and contemporary works, ranging from full-length story ballets to new works by some of today's finest choreographers.

Boston Ballet presents George Balanchine's A Midsummer Night's Dream, a lucid and inventive telling of Shakespeare's play. A Midsummer Night's Dream was Balanchine's first original, full-length ballet. Called by critic Clive Barnes, "a fantasy spectacle of love," this work is a masterful combination of storytelling and choreography danced to the exquisite sounds of Mendelssohn. The ballet tells a story of love, illusion and adventures of two pairs of mortal lovers and the kind and queen of the fairies. A Midsummer Night's Dream was choreographed for New York City Ballet and premiered in 1962. The production includes a large cast complete with 25 students from Boston Ballet School and sets and costumes designed by Tony Award-winner Martin Pakledinaz. The last time A Midsummer Night's Dream was danced by Boston Ballet it was called, "a winner, a gorgeous, spirited production given strong performances throughout the ranks, including the excellent orchestra led by Jonathan McPhee" by The Boston Globe.

#353 Carb Loading for the Boston Marathon

Posted by Tara Peterson on Fri, Apr 15, 2011

pasta

Whether you're running in the Boston Marathon or not, it's time to load up on those carbs! We know summer is coming, and you want to fit into your swimsuit, but get it out of your system this weekend, and than go on that diet! We made a short, but GREAT list of some Boston local hot spots to get your pasta/pizza feast on.

Stella

Located in Boston's South End at 1525 Washington St.
What you should have: Spaghetti, meatballs, pomodoro , parmesan. Which runs around $17

Sportello

Located in South Boston/Waterfront (depending on how you look at it) at 348 Congress St , this quaint but cool restaurant will make you want to come back for more.
What you should have: the Bolognese is AMAZING! However, it doesn't seem to be on their menu right now. But maybe, you could go in and be extra friendly and see if they can make it for you. ;)

Anchovies

Another local favorite in the South End at 433 Columbus Ave. The space is tight, but well worth it.
What you should have: Chicken Parmigiana $13.00. Chantelle said it was the best EVER! And I trust her when it comes to food..well when it comes to anything really.

Pasta Beach

I just discovered Pasta Beach this week, and fell in LOVE with it. The space was great, but the food made it even better. If you're looking for some authentic Italian pizza go here, and their pasta is to die for as well!! I'll definitely be going back. Located on the Waterfront at 30 Rowe's Wharf.
What you should have: The ultimate test to see if it was good was ordering the margarita pizza and the Bolognese pasta. Superb! But be adventurous, because I am positive that every dish is AMAZING!

#351 Miss Tess & The Bon Ton Parade

Posted by Tara Peterson on Wed, Apr 13, 2011

music500Miss Tess is Brooklyn-based performing songwriter and bandleader. Darling, oh Darling, the fifth release from Miss Tess, shows the performing artist and songwriter transcending the retro-label often appended to her music in the past. Although the music maintains a certain feeling of nostalgia, upon a few listens one will find unique personality and a fresh approach in these original compositions. The new album makes use of varied instrumentation including country-tinged pedal steel, a three part horn section, barroom piano, and a lonesome banjo.
