#122 Tour the Boston Public Library

Posted by Michael DiMella on Wed, Aug 25, 2010

Boston Public Library CourtyardOh yay...it's raining once again, for the third day in a row. I suppose this would be a good day to take it indoors...maybe grab a book at the Boston Public Library....Founded in 1848, the Boston Public Library was the first large free municipal library in the US. In addition to its 6.1 million books, the library boasts over 1.2 million rare books and manuscripts, a wealth of maps, musical scores and prints.

Visit Bates Hall (known as one of the most important rooms in the world with barrel-arched ceilings enclosed by half domes on each end and English oak bookcases)

The Chavannes Gallery:
Murals painted by renowned French artist Pierre Puvis de Chavannes

The Abbey Room:
Murals entitled the "Quest of the Holy Grail" and I don't think they are Monty Python murals...although that would be quite entertaining.

The Sargent Gallery:
See murals painted by John Singer Sargent

And don't forget to grab some lunch at the Courtyard Restaurant  and then actually walk through the Courtyard. It's absolutely breathtaking.

#120 Visit the MOBA (The Museum of Bad Art)

Posted by Tara Peterson on Mon, Aug 23, 2010

MOBASo we all appreciate good art, but the question is, do you appreciate bad art? If you haven't, make a run to Davis Square (55 Davis Square) and see this most humerous and sometimes scary Museum of Bad Art. (We personally like the image we posted, Queen of the Chocolate Chip Cookie).

Better yet, plan an evening out with viewing some bad art, and then seeing a movie at the historic Somerville Theater!! It still has that whole old school movie theater charm to it! And they have concerts too!!

#118 Prudential Center Movies: UP

Posted by Tara Peterson on Sat, Aug 21, 2010

up movie posterNeed something to do before you go out Saturday night?  Head to the Pru. Free concerts are provided by Prudential Center for the enjoyment of shoppers, tenants, and clients. During summer, the main venue for concerts and entertainment is the south garden located near Central Court.

The garden contains a large well-maintained lawn, peripheral cafe-style outdoor seating, sculptures, water fountain, and a small stage in one corner for the free concerts. Many people also have lunch in the garden, which offers superb views of the adjoining office buildings, all the while in a quiet and relaxing environment.

Tonight the Pixar favorite, UP, will start at 6pm.

#117 Happy Friday! Get Your Gelato Fix Today

Posted by Tara Peterson on Fri, Aug 20, 2010

bonbonOh man, it's going to be kind of hot, and even if it's not today, enjoy your Friday and grab some Gelato! Oh that sweet, sweet Italian dessert.

With summer almost coming to an end (tear) boston.com made a pretty AWESOME list of places to get this amazing frozen treat.(I wish I had the job of eating Gelato, but that would mean more time in the gym...but who am I kidding, I hate gyms. However, Gelato is made with less than half the butterfat of ice cream. Sign me up).

Check it out and get your Gelato fix on today, or any day of that matter. (I have a tendancy to crave ice cream in the winter more than the summer, messed up I know).

Happy Friday!

#115 Jaws 35th Anniversary Screening at the Somerville Theatre

Posted by Tara Peterson on Wed, Aug 18, 2010

jaws posterFor some reason, the Jaws movie poster still strikes fear in my heart...I mean look at it!!! I couldn't even swim in the deep end of the swimming pool at school, for fear that a shark would come flying out of the drains at the bottom....stupid shark!

With that said...head over to the Somerville Theater and catch the 35th Anniversary Screening of....dunah....dunah...dunah...(that's my attempt at the music) Jaws! They will be airing it the 19th and the 20th of August. There is rumor that a large crowd will gather, so we suggest getting their early to get tickets, and they are handing out some free beer. FREE BEER!!
