Help! I’ve moved to Boston and know no one!

Being a Boston transplant myself, I can relate to how overwhelming it can be to meet people in a new city. As an agent, I have worked with several relocatees whom in many cases, won’t know a single person.  They maybe had to move here for a job or just decided to try something new. Irregardless of the reason, most will agree one of the toughest parts of a transitioning to a new city is meeting people. Unfortunately, we can’t just walk across the hall to another’s dorm and instantly have new friends (well I suppose you could knock on neighbor’s doors but that isn’t always an open invitation like college days).

Luckily, Boston has TONS of different activities and groups to get involved with to keep you from hibernating  with Ben & Jerry’s all winter. To name a few:

Boston Ski and Sports Club (BSSC)

Boston Ski and Sports Club offers a variety of sport leagues from skiing to flag football. It is a great way to stay active and meet others also interested in being active. However, if you aren’t feeling as active BSSC also hosts several social events throughout the year at different venues within the city.

Charity Events

Going to charity events or fundraisers is a great way to meet people and give back at the same time. I suggest finding a cause or charity you feel passionately or want to learn more about. There are hundreds of charity/fundraising events throughout the city ranging from Art Shows to Black tie affairs. Check out http://www.eventbrite.com for a list of different events.

Back To School

Okay I don’t mean you have to go back to get your doctorate or anything but signing up for a class in a subject you’re interested can be a great way to meet people with a shared interest. Maybe you want to learn how to cook or about how to buy a home. There are ample universities and opportunities to sign up for a wide variety of different classes. Check out what different universities in the area have to offer OR if you’re really interested in the subject of buying a home, come check out our free home buyer’s seminar 🙂 Register here!

These are just a few of many ideas of how to get out there are start meeting people once you’ve made it to Boston. You can also ask your real estate agent if you have something more specific you would want to get involved with. It’s our job to know the city and what is has to offer so we should be able to lead you in the right direction. The main thing is to get out there and experience everything Boston has to offer. Cheers!
